DUDE VOLUME 1
For the time being: full strips and pages of Dude will be published on this site before they appear anywhere else.
NEW! WRITTEN TRANSCRIPT OF (currently published) DUDE VOL 1
About Dude
Dude began as a crudely drawn stick figure, identifiable by his backwards baseball cap perched seemingly precarious atop his head. From panel 1 he introduces himself, and establishes the premise.
Although this website is called radically peaceful, Dude is, by self proclamation, excessively violent. In order to achieve peace in our world we must delve into the violent nature of the human psyche be it through one type of media or another. Here is one attempt to do just that through the media of cartoon drawing.

I began drawing Dude when I was 8. Now I’m 34. I have almost completed “Volume 1″ by filling up the pages of the 11×14” sketch pad Dude is originally drawn on.
Over the years I would draw some Dude, and then take a break for a while. My breaks would range from several hours to several years. In the beginning my breaks were shorter.
My early drawing style was crude but effective, and I would fill up multiple pages quickly with the telling of a short story.
Resuming after longer breaks would bring an improvement in my drawing.
Dude’s quest, both literally and metaphorically, is for substance.
Panel of note
Page 1 panel 13 – this is when we first see Dude’s arch-nemesis Mr. B. Mr. B stands out immediately, because he has substance, he is a much thicker stick figure.
Page 13, panels 1 and 2 – I would never wish this to happen in real life.
Inspiration for Dude:
At age 8 I can say without a doubt that my biggest inspirations were Star Wars and Bill Watterson’s Calvin and Hobbes. I have always been a big fan of the “funny pages” and I have collected the works of my top favorite cartoonists. I will attempt to list them in order: Calvin and Hobbes, The Far Side, Fox Trot, Stone Soup, For Better or for Worse, Zits, Bizarro, Garfield, Dilbert. There are many other cartoon strips that I enjoy and admire, but have not yet made the bookshelf. I took my love of Star Wars and channeled it though my love of cartoons in general, and Dude is the result.
